
How to Sign Up for the Tournament
​1. Form a team
a. Each team will consist of 5 players: pitcher and 4 fielders
b. Ages 12 – 112, male or female
2. Register your team
a. Click on the Team Registration button on the website
b. Enter Team name
c. Choose a Team Captain and enter the Captain’s name
d. Enter Captain’s email address
e. Enter Captain’s phone number
3. Gather sponsors for your team
a. Once $500 in sponsorships assigned to your team is received through the website,
your team is in the tournament
b. No minimum amount of donation from sponsors. Any amount is accepted
c. No maximum number of individual sponsors. The $500 can be achieved with one sponsor, or 500 different sponsors
d. Remember to keep the sponsorship donations coming, as cash prizes will be given
to the team and individual with the most sponsorships received through the website
4. Sponsors click on Team Donation button on website (buckinghamterrace.org) or via QR code on brochure
a. Enter donation amount
b. Enter Team Name
c. Enter Individual on team for sponsor credit, if applicable
d. A team is eligible for the tournament once $500 in sponsorships is credited through the website
e. There will be a cash prize for the team with the most sponsorship funds raised
f. There will be a cash prize for the individual with the most sponsorship funds raised
5. Matching shirts/uniforms is encouraged to uniquely identify each team
6. Practice for the big day!
Tournament Rules

Games played on four fields simultaneously, as needed

Each game limited to 3 innings

Only equipment supplied by Tournament Staff may be used during any Tournament game

Teams will be placed in the Tournament bracket randomly

All team rosters must me submitted to Tournament Staff on the day of the Tournament and

cannot be altered throughout the Tournament

A Tournament Staff member will be the Official Scorer for each game

Each game will be self-umpired. Team captains will settle all disputes over calls

Any team or player who engages in lewd or unsportsmanlike conduct or behavior will be removed by Tournament Staff.
Game Play
Pitching:
o No excessively fast pitches, as judged by Official Scorer
o Three strikes is an out. Strikes are swing-and-miss, foul ball (except third strike), and a pitched ball that hits the strike target anywhere on the rectangle
o Four balls is a walk. A ball is a pitch that is not swung at that hits the batter or does not hit the strike target.
o No base on hit-by-pitch
o Pitcher must have one foot on and one foot off the pitching rubber
o There are no intentional walks
o Pitching rubber is placed approximately 35’ from home plate

Batting:
o Three strikes is an out. Strikes are swing-and-miss, foul ball (except third strike), and a pitched ball that hits the strike target anywhere on the rectangle
o Four balls is a walk. A ball is a pitch that is not swung at that hits the batter or does not hit the strike target.
o No base on hit-by-pitch
o No bunting. If a batted ball, whether intentionally or unintentionally, is hit into fair territory and does not land (stop moving) more than eight feet from home plate, it will be considered a strike.
o A batted fair ball that lands inside the Home Run Line and rolls past the Home Run Line is a live ball.

Fielding:
o The four fielders can play anywhere on the field for any batter, as long as it is in fair territory.
o A batted ball caught on the fly is an out. (See exception under Home Run) o If a batted ball is fielded and thrown to the pitcher inside pitcher’s circle and controlled before the batter reaches first, the batter is out (“Pitcher’s Hand Rule”). This applies to runners running to first base only.
o Baserunners are out if the base is tagged by a fielder with the ball in force play conditions, tagged with the ball, or comes in contact with the ball in play while off a base. (Fielders can throw the ball at runners going to any base; and, if hit below the neck while oƯ base, the runner is out (pegging).
o No infield fly rule

Baserunning:
o Bases are approximately 40’ from home plate and each other.
o Baserunners are out if the base is tagged by a fielder with the ball in force play conditions, tagged with the ball, or comes in contact with the ball in play while off a base.
o A baserunner running to first base only can be put out under the “Pitcher’s Hand Rule” (see above).
o No leading off. Baserunner cannot leave any base until a pitched ball makes contact with the bat.
o No base stealing
o Tagging up on fly balls is allowed at the baserunner’s discretion.
o If there is an overthrown ball that travels out of the field of play, the baserunner is awarded one base.
o In the case of extra innings, the batter making the last out in the previous inning will begin play on second base.

Home Run:
o A painted home run line arc in the outfield grass is approximately 80’-90’ from home plate.
o A batted ball that travels beyond the painted home run line in the outfield on the fly is a home run.
o A batted ball that is caught while the fielder’s feet are both inside the home run line, the batter is out.
o A batted ball that is touched or caught while either of the fielder’s feet are beyond the home run line, it will be ruled a home run if the ball lands, or the trajectory of the ball would land, beyond the home run line.
o A batted ball that is touched by a fielder on the fly with both feet inside the home run line, but not caught, the following applies:
â–ª If the ball land outside the home run line, it is a home run.
â–ª If the ball lands inside the home run line, it is a live ball.
o A batted ball that travels beyond the home run line but outside the foul lines is a foul ball.
Home Run Derby Rules

Contest held approximately midway through tournament, at Tournament Staff’s discretion ∙ $10 fee to enter contest, paid at day of event

Contestant can choose pitcher of his/her choice.

Pitcher tosses regulation WiƯle ball to contestant however it is chosen (lobbing, underhand, etc.), and from anywhere on the field.

A home run is recorded if the batted ball travels beyond the home run line on the fly in fair territory.
-
Each swing that is not hit beyond the home run line in fair territory is an out. ∙ Each contestant’s round is over once 10 outs are recorded.

The contestants totaling the top two home run totals in round one go on to compete head to-head in the Championship Round

The contestant totaling the most home runs in the Championship Round is declared the Home Run Derby Winner
